About clouds on a former island
2016
Construction: a cloth of 9m x 9m, fastened with ropes to bollards
Materials: 13 x 13 canvases of shiny polyester fabric 70 x 70 cm, sewn together to 1 large sailcloth.
Location: the old port of former island Schokland in the reclaimed Zuiderzee, now Noordoostpolder, the Netherlands
The clouds, the vast silent landscape and the abandoned former island are the sources of inspiration. The towels are sewn in a former artproject by women in the province of Zeeland (Handkerchiefs drying in the Wind, 2012). For this work the towels are sewn together to a big square cloth. Depending on the wind, it became a bowl or a huge sailcloth in the wind.
