The sound of the wind
2014
Material: sand
Size: 8m x 4m
Subtitle: And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a strong driving wind, that completely filled the house in which they were (Acts 1: 2).
The installation exists out of hundreds of oak leaves of sand. It was made in the church of Koekange on behalf of Feast of the Mind, a national visual art project in churches, between Ascension and Pintecost.
The inspiration for the installation is my grandmother. My grandmother comes from the region of Koekange and probably went to this church. Each day she walked many miles to school along the road with trees and their rustling leaves.
Other inspiration for the installation is the treeform of the selfmade pulpit, built by the 15th pastor of the church himself.
